Pat Tillman’s Decision, Joe Andruzzi’s Emotional Ceremony Among Most Patriotic Moments in American Sports History

Honorable Mention. U.S. victory at 1999 Ryder Cup: This victory for the U.S. checks in as an honorable mention because, while the celebratory antics of the Americans were seen by some as over the top, the win was an improbable one. The U.S. trailed Europe 10-6 heading into the final round, but the Americans rallied for a 14 1/2-13 1/2 victory. It marks the largest come-from-behind victory in Ryder Cup history, and it is widely considered one of the most impressive come-from-behind victories in recent sports history. So, yes, the celebration was a bit much, but with all things considered (including Justin Leonard’s incredible putt), it deserves at least a mention. |
