Orioles, Pirates, Phillies Should Buy at Trade Deadline, But Yankees, Rangers Should Stay Put
Boston Red Sox: Buyers. Josh Johnson is one of the best pitchers available at the deadline, but the Miami Marlins say they want top prospects in return for the right-hander. As of Monday, the Red Sox are 51-51 and last in the American League East. Jon Lester and Josh Beckett have disappointed in the starting rotation. Despite contributions from Felix Doubront and Aaron Cook, Boston’s pitching staff is one of the worst in baseball. Johnson could change that. One of the big names on the trading block, he could set the Red Sox up to run away with one of the wild card spots. Johnson is 6-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 21 starts this season for the Marlins.
