Hiroki Kuroda, Ryan Dempster Among Could-Be Free Agent Pitchers Red Sox Should Pursue
Francisco Liriano. Liriano’s name pops out when scanning the list of free agent pitchers. The 28-year-old has had stretches of brilliance in the big leagues, including his 12-3, 2.16 ERA first season with the Twins. But Liriano, who has fought injuries throughout the years and missed the 2007 season with Tommy John surgery, is quite the gamble. When he’s good, he’s good. But injuries and other poor stretches make Liriano more of a question mark long-term. While he could turn into a steal for a team that takes him from this year’s free agent class, he’s too much of a gamble for big money or big expectations. The Red Sox should tread with care.
